In recent months, there have been three exciting provincial government announcements related to Education in Kitimat:

 

October 28, 2024: Fifty new teachers recruited to work in rural B.C. classrooms

 

  • Kindergarten-to-Grade 12 students in some of B.C.’s rural and remote communities will benefit from 50 new teachers.
  • Part of the funding was used to provide hiring incentives of between $4,000 and $10,000 per teacher.
  • Of the 50 new teachers, 41 are located in northern B.C.

 

April 16, 2024: B.C. takes action to improve literacy for students

 

  • More support for early screening and interventions is now available to help students with dyslexia and other learning disabilities be more successful.
  • To identify and support students who may be experiencing learning difficulties, the B.C. government will work with school districts to implement evidence-based early literacy screening for all students in kindergarten to Grade 3.


November 9, 2023: New act streamlines credential recognition for internationally trained professionals

 

  • British Columbia is to benefit from internationally trained professionals having an easier path to working in their chosen careers and filling crucial skills shortages.
  • The professions include engineers, social workers, veterinarians, paramedics, early childhood educators, teachers, biologists, land surveyors, architects and more.
